Carbon dioxide emissions tax on mechanically-driven vehicles

The tax on carbon dioxide emissions from motor vehicles is an own tax.

The tax on carbon dioxide emissions from motor vehicles is a tax levied by the Generalitat de Catalunya, the purpose of which is to tax the carbon dioxide emissions produced by these vehicles and which have an impact on the increase in greenhouse gas emissions.

This tax has a finalist nature and is intended to be used in equal parts to finance the Climate Fund and the Natural Heritage Fund. The tax is administered by means of a census and is prepared and approved by the Catalan Tax Agency on the basis of the data available to it.

Calendar
- 1 May: publication of the provisional census
- 4 June: deadline for submitting allegations (requests for modification)
- 15 July: deadline for payment by direct debit for the 2020 financial year
- 1 September: publication of the definitive municipal tax register
- From 15 September: start of the payment period.
